UPDATED: Martin's Pond Chemical Treatment Postponed to Monday, August 9th

TREATMENT SCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 5TH HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO AUGUST 9TH.  PLEASE SEE UPDATED INFORMATON BELOW:

The Department of Public Works, in conjunction with the Martin's Pond Reclamation Study Committee, has contracted with All Habitat Services, LLC for the chemical treatment of Martin's Pond for invasive plants on Monday, August 9, 2021.  The public is advised not to use the pond during the day on Monday, August 9th.  Activities may resume as follows:

  • Drinking and cooking: August 9th at 5:00 PM
  • Boating and fishing: August 9th at 5:00 PM
  • Watering of livestock: August 9th at 5:00 PM
  • Irrigation: August 17th at 5:00 PM

Please be advised that the quality of water in Martins Pond is not tested for compliance with the Massachusetts State Sanitary Code 105 CMR 445.000 “Minimum Standards for Bathing Beaches”.  Neither the Town of North Reading nor the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health monitor or regularly test water quality in Martins Pond. Swimming is prohibited at all Town-owned property, including the beach and dock at Clarke Park, the the launch ramp at Travelled Way, and the bridge on Burroughs Road.  The public is advised that swimming at any other non-Town owned property on the Pond (including private property) and in the open water of the Pond is at your own risk.
