Guiding Good Choices Back for Fall

Guiding Good Choices is offered again this fall to North Reading families and those in surrounding communities FREE of charge. Please share this great opportunity with parents who would like to learn more about how to guide their children during these challenging times.

Enrollment includes dinner each week, facilitated workshops, guest speakers, social time, and course materials. Each workshop offers a $30 gift card raffle to attendees! 40 Developmental Assets Training

The Search Institute has found 40 factors that are important to young people’s success. They call these “Developmental Assets” which are traits, values and experiences that all young people need to be healthy, successful and reach their full potential.

The more assets young people have, the more likely they are to:

  • thrive;
  • make healthy choices; and
  • avoid harmful behaviours.

When a young person increases the number of assets they have, research shows they become happier and more resilient. Regardless of:

  • gender;
  • culture;
  • how much money they have; or
  • where they live.
Please join and invite others to participate in this important training with Amy Luckiewicz and Laura Miranda. Lunch is included (please make your menu selection when sign up). Register here for one of the following sessions to be held at the NRPD Community Room and sponsored in partnership with Winchester Hospital. Choose from one of nine dates, starting at either 12 p.m. or 7 p.m.

North Reading Police to Host Child Safety Seat Checks

The North Reading Police Department will host a Child Seat

Check Day on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022 from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the Middle/High School parking lot. The event will feature child safety seat inspections by Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. Children are also welcome to attend to tour a North Reading Police cruiser.

School Resource Officer Detective Paul Lucci noted, “Proper car seat installation is vital to the safe transportation of children in a vehicle. Having your car seat inspected by a certified child passenger safety technician is important in ensuring your car seat has been installed correctly and any misuse found can be corrected.” He added, “This safety step will help prevent unintentional injuries to a child.”

If you need a car seat installed or know anyone who would like help with proper installation, please reach out to Det. Lucci at plucci@nrpd.org.

Core Measurement Presented

Amy Luckiewicz shared the 2021-22 Core Measurement Survey results with the School Committee earlier this summer.  While some categories of substance use showed improvement, there is still work to be done. This survey is an important component of North Reading's grant. Please take the time to review the detailed presentation and data at this link.
