Federal Decennial Census--2010

Notice to North Reading Residents

• The United States Federal Census Bureau will be mailing the 2010 Decennial Census in March.
• This 10-year census is separate from the Town of North Reading Annual Town Census and must be returned under Federal Law by each household.
• Failure to return the Federal Census will initiate a visit to the residence by a Federal Census Representative for compliance.
• Responding to the Federal Census directly affects the allocation of Federal Funds to the local community.  Each community receives their share of Federal Funds based on the "official" population figures from the Federal Census.
• The "official" Federal Census population figures are also used as the basis for legislative re-districting at the State level, as well as determining Congressional representation.
