Mass Downtowns Initiative Grant

Technical Assistance Grant Awarded by DHCD

North Reading has been awarded a $10,000 technical assistance grant from the Department of Housing and Community Development's Mass Downtowns Initiative program. The purpose of the grant is to create a concept plan for streetscape improvements to Route 28 in the vicinity of the two intersections with Route 62. The goals are to make the area more pedestrian friendly and improve the business climate by enhancing access and making the streetscape more attractive. We will look at possibilities for a future “complete streets” program, and we hope to use a concept design to inform a future reconstruction of this part of Route 28.

Workshop

A public workshop to obtain input on alternative design scenarios was held on Thursday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. in room 14 of North Reading Town Hall (flyer here). Steve Cecil facilitated the workshop, where we received a good deal of resident input. Click here for the presentation given. Attendees broke out into small groups and gave feedback on the two options (and other elements, such as lighting improvements and street trees) in the presentation. Please feel free to fill out and return this feedback form to Danielle McKnight at dmcknight@northreadingma.gov or fax it to 978-664-6052. Alternatively, you may email, mail, or fax any comments to Danielle using the above information.
