Due to unusually low water levels, the North Reading Water Department has postponed the fall fire hydrant flushing program, originally scheduled to begin on Monday, September 17, 2007.
The lack of rainfall over the second half of the summer has combined with higher than normal water demands to decrease water levels at the Town's wells and in Haggett's Pond, the source of water for the Town of Andover. The Town of Andover is also limited in their capacity to pump water to refill Haggett's Pond due to maintenance work currently taking place.
It is anticipated that the water supply situation will return to normal over the next few weeks as water demands decrease, the maintenance work is completed and (hopefully) rainfall returns to more normal levels. The Water Department will make the decision on the flushing schedule based on how quickly the water levels return to normal.
Residents are asked to contact the Water Department at (978) 664-6060 for additional information.
