Household Hazardous Waste Day is generally in the fall.
What to bring:
· From the workbench: oil-based paints, stains, varnishes, wood preservatives, paint strippers/thinners, solvent adhesive, lighter fluid
· From the garage: fuels/gasoline/kerosene, antifreeze, engine degreaser, brake fluid, carburetor cleaner, transmission fluid, car wax and polishes, driveway sealer, roofing tar, swimming pool chemicals
· From the yard: poisons, insecticides, fungicides, chemical fertilizers, weed killers, moth balls, flea-control products
· From the home: rubber cement, airplane glue, fiberglass resin, photo chemicals, chemistry sets, furniture/floor/metal polish, oven/drain/toilet cleaner, spot remover, rug/upholstery cleaner, fluorescent bulbs, household batteries containing mercury (see above), mercury thermometers, mercury thermostats, hobby supplies, artist supplies
· Proof of residency! Household Hazardous Waste Day is for North Reading residents only.
How to bring them:
· Leave materials in their original containers.
· Tighten caps and lids.
· Sort and pack separately: oil paint, pesticides and household cleaners.
· NEVER MIX CHEMICALS.
· Use sturdy boxes to transport.
· Pack your car and drive directly to the drop-off site.
· NEVER SMOKE while handling hazardous material.
What NOT to bring:
· Empty containers/trash
· Latex paint
· Commercial or industrial waste
· Radioactive waste, smoke detectors
· Infectious waste, biological waste
· Ammunition, fireworks, explosives
· Fire extinguishers
· Prescription medicines, syringes
· Yard waste - ***The compost pile is always closed on Household Hazardous Waste Day.***
