2009 Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day
Saturday, September 26, 2009
North Reading will be holding our annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at the Richard Spindler Complex (DPW Garage) located at 166 Chestnut Street.  This Collection Day is held annually to provide residents of North Reading the opportunity to properly and safely dispose of many types of potentially hazardous waste materials they may have stored in their homes and garages.  Please note that the Complex will not be taking leaves, grass clippings or other yard waste during the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day.

What Do I Bring?      
         From the Workbench:
                Oil Based Paints
                Stains and Varnishes
                Wood Preservatives
                Paint Strippers and Thinners
                Solvent Adhesives
                Lighter Fluid
        From the Garage:
                Fuels/Gasoline/Kerosene
                Antifreeze
                Engine Degreaser
                Brake Fluid/Carburetor Cleaner
                Transmission Fluid
                Car Wax and Polishes

What Not To Bring!
        X Empty Containers/Trash
        X Latex Paint (pop the top, let it dry out and put it in the regular trash)
        X Commercial and Industrial Waste
        X Radioactive Waste, Smoke Detectors
        X Infectious and Biological Wastes
        X Ammunition, Fireworks and Explosives
        X Fire Extinguishers
        X Prescription Medicines or Syringes
        X Propane Tanks
        X Car Batteries 

How Can I Safely Transport These Hazardous Materials?
        Leave the materials in their original containers.
        Tighten caps and lids.
        Sort and pack separately: oil paint, pesticides and household cleaners.
        Pack containers in sturdy upright boxes.
        NEVER MIX CHEMICALS.
        Pack your car and drive directly to the drop off site.
        NEVER SMOKE when handling hazardous material.

The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is open to residents of North Reading.  Proof of residency is required.
