Solid Waste/Recycling Guidelines
• Recycling Bins: Additional recycling bins are available for $7 each at Town Hall. Also, you may use a trash container for recycling glass, metal and plastics, as long as it is clearly marked with no cover. Use recycling bin, not trash barrel, for paper.
• Containers/Weight Limit: Maximum of four (4) 30-gallon containers or bags per week, not exceeding 50 pounds in weight each. Recycling bin(s) should accompany trash container(s).
• Bulky Waste/Large Items: Mattresses, sofas, etc. Limit one per week.
• Awkward Items not in containers. Must be cut into 4-foot lengths, tied or bundled at curb. Each bundle is considered one bulky item. No construction debris.
• White Goods/Appliances: Call JRM at 1-800-323-4285 to schedule a collection. A $25 fee is charged for disposal.
• TV & Computer Monitors: Call JRM at 1-800-323-4285 to schedule a collection. No fee charged.
• Hazardous Waste/Special Collection: North Reading holds its Special Collection (fluorescent lamps, car batteries, propane tanks, scrap metal, tires) in late Spring and its Household Hazardous Waste Day in early Fall. Call the DPW for details.
• Oil Collection: Last Saturday of the month at the Spindler DPW Complex. Closed end of November until April.
• Scrap Metal and Yard Waste: The Compost Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the first Saturday in April until the last Saturday in November. Yard waste (grass, leaves; no brush) must be delivered loose or in biodegradable bags. No plastic bags. Scrap metal to be placed in the waste metal container at the DPW facility.
• Christmas Trees: Picked up curbside on a Saturday Special Collection in January. Call the DPW for details.
Missed Collection? Call JRM (1-800-323-4285) to report that your recycling bin or trash has not been picked up.
