The Town of North Reading will be reconstructing Park Street from the intersection with Winter Street (Route 62) to Main Street (Route 28) starting on Monday August 1, 2011. Local and through traffic will be impacted by
this construction. The DPW recommends that through traffic seek alternate routes during construction to avoid delays.
In preparation for this work, the Department of Public Works (DPW) Water Department replaced old water services with new copper pipe to ensure uninterrupted & safe water supply. The DPW Highway Department examined, cleaned and repaired or replaced all drain pipes. The roadsides were also regraded as needed to enhance rainfall and snow melt flow off of the pavement to enhance safety.
The next phase of this project will pulverize the existing pavement, screen & remove unsuitable material such as boulders and large stones, regrade & compact the road sub base. The surface will be treated with calcium chloride as necessary to control dust between the pavement removal and paving. This work is scheduled to start next week and will be followed by the repaving of the road in two layers, first the binder layer and then the top wearing surface layer.
Please contact the Department of Public Works at 978-357-5260 if you have questions.
