The recent string of hot, dry days have caused unusually high water demands of the Town’s public water system, primarily the result of outdoor watering. Coincident with this period, the Water Department has experienced a mechanical failure at our second largest water supply source and is unable to pump water from that source until repairs are made.
These factors have combined to cause the water levels in the Town’s three water storage tanks to drop below our standard operating levels, and we are unable to fill the storage tanks completely during the night. This results in reduced water pressure throughout the system.
In order to reduce the water demand until the mechanical failure is repaired, the Water Department is requesting that all customers making use of automated irrigation systems shut those systems off for the period from June 29 through July 4, 2007. This will allow the tanks to refill, and will provide the Water Department the ability to complete the repairs needed to restore the lost supply capacity.
The Water Department would also remind residents that the Town has adopted permanent odd/even outdoor water use restrictions. Under these restrictions, water users with odd numbered addresses are restricted to outdoor watering on odd numbered days, and residents with even numbered addresses are restricted to outdoor watering on even numbered days.
