Effective January 1, 2012, the Department of Fish and Game will issue all sporting licenses through a completely electronic licensing system called “MassFishHunt”. This "on-line" licensing program has been available for a few years, however beginning January 1st, it will be the only way to obtain a sporting license. Fishing and Hunting license books will no longer be provided to agents for the sale of “paper” licenses – all licenses sold will be "on-line" through this web-based program. Persons can apply for their sporting license on their own personal computer, or if one is not available, at public libraries that have computers available to the public.

Licenses may also be obtained through many sporting goods stores, including Dick’s Sporting Goods, Bass Pro Shops and also Walmart Stores (including the North Reading Walmart store). Click here for a listing of vendors that will provide on-line licensing:
